In a shock announcement on Thursday 25th May Micheál
O’Connell, Head of Crockery with the Brighton based Institute
of Unnecessary Research (IUR) has
resigned. Amidst the controversy surrounding his sudden decision
suggestions were made that there were concrete reasons for O’Connell’s
departure. It was rumoured that for some time the dynamic Head had felt
uncomfortable with the general levels of discourse and declining intellectual
life within the prestigious Institute. In a statement however Micheál
O’Connell said “My resignation ultimately amounts to a completely unnecessary
act. In fact the success of the Crockery department within the IUR
meant that as time progressed my position was becoming meaningful. In
order to avoid that degree of obligation and the risk that the department’s
operations and my role be deemed useful or necessary I am left with no option
but to leave.” |
