Distributed Devices Screening (DDS) (from 2016 on)
Long before the pandemic, this means of dissemination exploited the ubiquity of devices, hand-held and otherwise, to showcase certain kinds of work, and also to encourage active feedback. Evidence of viewing provided by participants in turn forms documentation of an event. The emphasis is on engagement, using technology and spaces which are readily available or underutilised, DIY and guerrilla approaches. The intention is to develop the method further in the post-pandemic period, as institutions continue to be interested in blended dissemination, mixing physical exhibition with online. In June 2021, an Open Call was run, and
selections made, from fifty submissions as part of the inaugural
Sussex Festival of Ideas.
